Walter has been with CIAM for over 10 years, and is responsible for CIAM’s technical development and support. This includes monitoring and maintaining stations to keep them on air.
A common question Walter is asked is, “What do you do?” Walter’s simple answer is, “I take care of the technical side of things for CIAM Media & Radio Broadcasting.” For many people that answer is sufficient, but when the person asking the question has a technical/computer background the answer can lead to many more questions and far more detailed answers. A couple of months ago, while visiting Walter’s mom, we went out for supper. A Bible verse on the wall of the restaurant led into a conversation with the owners and that subsequently led into a discussion about computer code languages and the online Chinese Outreach with their college age son. Only the Lord knows the full reason for that detailed conversation.
A question also asked is “What is CIAM?” The simple answer is that CIAM are the call letters for the radio. It is far more wonderful to be able to share the link between CIAM and the One who is the “I AM.” Sometimes that uncommon answer plants a seed; other times it opens the door for a time of fellowship with another child of the “I AM.”
A third question Walter is often asked is, “where do you do that?” The simple answer is, “from my basement in Fort Liard, NT.” Examples from two recent trips could expand that answer. One day in September, Walter took part in a Zoom Meeting in the car in the Co- Op parking lot in Grande Prairie, AB. A few days later he was doing maintenance at the Prince Albert tower site and switching out a transmitter. The last week of October he was back in Grande Prairie helping out with the ongoing transition to high power there. That same trip saw him at the Dawson Creek, BC tower site one afternoon to participate in the Safety Code 6 inspection. The next week the Fort St John team installed a fence at Dawson Creek to meet all the requirements.
1 Peter 3:15 says, “But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”
Walter is glad to answer the common questions about CIAM, but his greatest desire is to have opportunities to give an answer for the hope he has within in because of Christ.
