Dawn Drip: Unlock My Heart

Some of my struggles and victories as a radio host at Victory FM are summarized in this prayer from David in Psalm 51. Lord God, unlock my heart, unlock my lips, and I will overcome with my joyous praise! For the source of your pleasure is not in my performance or the sacrifices I might offer to you. We’ve all experienced ‘lockdown’ this last while… let’s hope that’s over! Have you considered that it’s also easy to go into lockdown personally?

What David had in mind here was his sin that entangles. Perhaps part of what David was referring to was ‘glossophobia’, which is the fear of public speaking! The end result of fear is lockdown at a heart level. A friend of mine said to me once “you seem locked up – when was the last time you felt totally free?” That was a challenge and is still a good question. Today I pass it on to you! This challenge will likely be a lifetime journey especially in front of a studio microphone… Many times I have learned to laugh at myself when I get my ‘merds-wixed’ or my mind goes blank!

There is also David’s reminder to ‘overcome with joyous praise’. Many times, praise songs help shift moments of discouragement. It’s easy to slip into performance mode and think it’s all about image management or personal sacrifice instead of surrender to the Lord and His pleasure. Often, I just sit there in wonder at the Lord’s presence in the room.

So, regardless of what you do for a living, is your heart locked up? Are your lips free to sing His praise? Are you experiencing the ‘unlocked freedom’ only He can give?
