Dawn Drip – This is a name given to the morning show by one of my grown kids. I think it’s creative, fun, and brings a meaningful conversation vibe to the Prince Albert airwaves. I’ve heard it said that ‘we are not experts but drips under pressure‘ and I hope that is reflected as I share what God is pouring into my life in those dawn hours! Hosted live from Prince Albert, SK with Mark Sorell Tuesday and Thursdays from 7-9AM.
The highlights this year (and always) have been those moments during the morning show where I feel the Lord’s presence in the studio. I love how He speaks through a song, illuminates my heart with His Word, challenges me with comments from an interview, or encourages me with words from listeners.
My goals this year include:
I aim to begin recording the radio dramas geared for First Nations youth. We’re making great progress—some scripts are written, some funds have been raised, and tentative recording weekends are coming together. Another goal is to improve access in and out of the farm north of Prince Albert. Our old tractor is no longer up to the challenge of snow clearing, so this improvement is crucial. Lastly, I am focused on improving my health and energy to better serve my roles and responsibilities.
I am thankful for the progress I’ve made in recovering from my “severe diabetes” diagnosis in July. While I need to be careful with my diet and medication, I am functioning normally for the most part. I am also deeply grateful for the people and funds raised toward the First Nations radio dramas.
Encouraging feedback continues to remind me of the impact of our work. A message from someone yesterday said, “I need to give a shout-out to you and the staff of Victory FM from everyone at the jail here at the Prince Albert Correctional Centre. Various guys have mentioned to me that they regularly listen to Victory FM and really enjoy the station. So, Victory is reaching inside Prince Albert’s prison walls!” A lady at church recently shared, “You need to know that I listen to you a lot, and I believe what you are doing is making a difference in lives like mine.” Reflecting on my journey as a radio host, I recall being inspired by Mark Baer, the CIAM host from Fort Vermillion, who sadly passed away on January 2nd of this year. His conversational style and heart for the Gospel inspired me to pursue this calling, echoing the verse from Romans 10:14: “How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?”
On a more personal note, my brother passed away in June after a lengthy struggle with dementia. The grieving process has been extended as I tend to push it away rather than process it. I believe some of my diabetic health issues are connected to the trauma of his passing while I was leading an ACTION Ventures team in Asia.
My wife and I want to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff, board, friends, and prayer warriors at Victory FM and CIAM radio. Though I serve as a volunteer radio host, affectionately known as “Prince Albert’s Dawn Drip,” we deeply appreciate the dedication of our friends at CIAM. We have been working full-time with Action International Ministries and Venture Teams since 1992. If you’d like to know more about our work with Action Ventures (Arts with a Purpose), please visit actionventures.ca or contact me at [email protected].
I don’t know what I would do if God didn’t daily, faithfully (and mercifully) speak to my heart to comfort, guide and inspire. Here are a few verses from recent days:
“The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. We write this to make our joy complete. This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.” – 1 John 1:2-5
We proclaim (announce)…
It is a ‘we’ effort, not a ‘me’ effort, with the staff and supporters of CIAM radio – Victory FM. The original word for ‘proclaim’ is ‘announce’ which applies well to radio.
“eternal life… which has appeared to us”
The person of Jesus Christ. It isn’t so much about facts but about a relationship with Jesus.
“what we have seen and heard…”
It takes the pressure off to know we are simply called to respond to what He has shown us.
“so that you may also have fellowship with us”
Our efforts are for a grand purpose of calling people into fellowship with God and His people.
“we write this to make our joy complete”
There is a completeness of joy that comes as we proclaim the light of Jesus.
“This is the message…”
God is light! In Him there is no darkness.
As I look at the shadows around me (and in me) I am grateful that we can draw near to the light… light exposes the darkness, it illuminates our path, brings joy, causes growth and adds warmth.
My Prayer for CIAM and our family:
Oh Lord, continue to shine your light on us and in us. Help us to shine brightly here in Prince Albert and around the world.
