Depending on His faithfulness

Depending on His faithfulness

It has been somewhat slow here at Gohnee Nazoo radio this last year also.  There are a few things that keep us quite busy year round.  But below are some of the things that did occur and a bit of an idea of where we may be heading in the future.

The biggest highlight from this last year was during the summer when the fire was encroaching upon the community. Walter Pope had the opportunity to air online daily reports about the fire situation in Fort Liard. The reporting was done in English by the Energy & Natural Resources individual in charge of local fire reporting in our region of the Northwest Territories and also in the South Slavey (Dene) language with a local Dene Elder. They met in Walter and Aileen’s home daily for this time of reporting on air.  This went on for about three weeks during the most crucial times when weather and conditions were causing possible evacuation of the town. The fire got as close as 19 kilometers at that time. We are extremely thankful that the Lord held the fire back at that time and we are also thankful for all the hard work done by all the firefighters working many hours in all types of weather and in extremely hazardous conditions.

Recently, Walter has been working on an upgrade on the local equipment for the purposes of “normalization of audio”. This is a process that automatically adjusts volume, tone, and other parts and elements of music, and in some cases quality of music to make it easier to listen to and to help hear the music clearly. Some types of music can be very loud and lyrics can become inaudible or very jumbled and mumbled for many listeners. This will help many people, especially older persons to be able to tolerate and hear more clearly a wider variety of the newer music styles.

It would be nice to have an active group of individuals assisting and doing some things in some manner for the radio broadcasts, but we will have to leave that in the Lord’s hands for the present time.  Prayers in that regard would be nice and greatly appreciated.  It is, as many of you already know, quite difficult to find volunteers especially in small communities.  It would be nice to get some local help in getting some more local content on the radio.

We are very thankful for equipment that is working well and of course we are thankful for Walter who is in close proximity to the equipment, as it is after all, sitting in the basement of his and Aileen’s home.  If anything goes wrong he is able to be right on top of it so to speak.

Also, we are thankful that we continue to hear occasionally from a few individuals in the community that they are listening and liking what they hear on the radio.

This verse came to my attention earlier today and I feel it is appropriate for closing this year end newsletter.

Deuteronomy 7:9  “Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.”

This is a verse that I found earlier today that I feel is a good reminder of the loving, merciful, and gracious God we follow.  It is a reminder that our Creator is with us as He says and that we can depend completely on His faithfulness to always be there.  As you all well know, there are days when we have times of difficulty and hardship.  God’s greater purpose for this is the strengthening of our dependence and reliance, and our trust and faith in Him that He will always be there no matter the difficulty.  Thank You Lord for the multitude of blessings that you lovingly provide for us, your children.
