A Special Message from Pastor Terry Hagen

Serving with Sunrise Radio

Hi! I am Pastor Terry Hagen, of Peace Reformed Presbyterian Church in Dawson Creek and Calgary, Alberta. I am pleased to say that I am into my seventh year with CIAM/Sunrise Radio in Ft. St. John. I have been providing a noon hour devotional during this time. It has been a wonderful experience for me, and I hope for the listeners of Sunrise Radio as well.

During this time, it has been a blessing to be able to provide the devotionals with the help of a great editor in Marilyn Bailey. Al Bailey is there to support both of us. Of course, we give thanks to the Board of Directors who contribute so much of their time and gifts to the Glory of God. We also wish to express our gratitude to those in the community that support us financially.

I have three Bible Studies of my own, a week plus the devotional. It is not just a benefit for listeners, but it is a benefit for all of us. Each time we read a passage it seems that we notice something new that we had never picked up on before. That is one of the great benefits of spending a good deal of time in Scripture.

I recall having coffee with another pastor friend at Tim’s near the shopping centre in Ft. St. John. The pastor and I were chatting and a man at the next table said I recognize your voice. “You are on Sunrise radio aren’t you?” It is such an inspiration to know that there are those, out there, of faith who are listening to a Christian radio station.

Prayer in Challenging Times

These are challenging times for us in the Body of Christ. I have never seen in my lifetime the persecution that is being experienced by Christians around the world. Christ did say if they hated you it was because they hated me first:

John 15:18 (NIV) “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.”

I have a few other verses that I would like to share with you. This passage is significant in that it reminds us to give thanks in all things. It is not so easy to give thanks in difficult circumstances and yet that is what we are called to do. We pray of course for peace where there are wars raging throughout the world. We pray for the ministries that take the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all corners of the world.

We give thanks for the many who bring the “Good News” to those who do not know our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. We pray for the poor, the hungry, the widows, and the orphans. The following biblical passage is one which I quote often. I find that it reveals the will of God for our lives. One of the things it asks of us is to pray continually.

Thessalonians 5:16–18 (NIV) “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Praising God for answered Prayer

We have been asked to share a testimony for this year’s newsletter. I am happy to say I have experienced the amazing presence of Christ in my life, and so picking one is difficult. Each day I am grateful for the answer to prayer. There have been trials and tribulations but also answers to prayer which I had hoped for.

Just recently our church directors meet on Zoom. One of our youngest directors, who came to faith in 2017 gave a spontaneous testimonial at our meeting that evening. The young man had come to me for prayers of healing after a serious industrial accident and those prayers were answered immediately. The great blessing of this event was not as much the physical healing as it was spiritual.

I do keep CIAM and Sunrise Radio in my prayers.

In Christ,
Pastor Terry Hagen
