A Special Message from Tom Gayton (Revive)

I’m Tom Gayton and I host and produce a Radio Show called Revive which airs throughout the CIAM Radio Network Friday Nights.

Play More Canadian!

It was in 2021 when  I got a new time slot on Friday nights replacing a show that was no longer being produced. At the time, I had aired over 300 shows since the Friday change over. Then the shows became difficult to complete. Computer issues, music selection, editing etc. As I prayed for the show and time went on, I kept hearing in my head “Play More Canadian Music” – I was playing maybe 2 or 3 Canadian songs at that time but it was almost relentless “Play More Canadian.”

I would argue “Is there enough music from Canada to fill a show? Is it Radio Worthy? Why?” Finally it felt like a nudge or even a push and from that I basically said “I will do it.”

Almost instantly I begin to find Canadian music and artists ranging from the 70s to Current, and from all genres. I had no issue making the show 75 to 80 percent Canadian, and even made a few all Canadian.

In 2023, I think the “Why” was answered. In the Spring I found a young local artist and she had just released her first song. I communicated with her, played her song on Revive, and in return she gave us some liners. Furthermore I helped the local Gospel Jamboree find artists from Alberta to perform in August. I recommended this artist and she got booked for her first “paid” gig.

From this, I got an email thanking me for the help and support we have given her and other artists. I like to think when these artists release music, they have something to say or a message to send. Perhaps it’s a sharing of Gifts or a calling they are following and if we can help them by playing a song on the Radio it is something I enjoy as a ministry.

In closing, I’m thankful and grateful to God, Jesus My Lord and Saviour, Revive FM and CIAM Radio for allowing and helping me in this Ministry and making it a significant part of my Christian Life.
